Why Syunik Corridor ?
Why Syunik Corridor ?
The Syunik Corridor is a project that can satisfy both Azerbaijan and Armenia on a solution that can connect Azerbaijan to its Exclave of Nakhichevan on an "extra territorial" basis without infringing Armenia's territorial integrity or intersecting with the North-South corridor that connects Iran with Georgia.
It is not only a matter of connecting Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan, but also an essential part of the Silk Road connecting Asia with Europe and the Middle East.
Even if operated on a toll collection basis, it can save significant time and fuel for all vehicles crossing the mountainous region of Syunik in under 45 minutes, compared to the regular roads of about 200 Km and an average of 5 hours crossing time, not to mention customs formalities and waiting time at the border.
The revenues from the tolls can be shared between the foreign investments and the Government of Armenia on an ROI basis of 8 % / year, and a concession period of 30 years.
